This study intends to go deeper into the reasons behind the minority yet prominent «tradition» of the homo-social nature of emblematic Chilean secondary schools. A sociohistorical rebuilding of Chilean sex-segregated secondary education, from its establishment in 1813 to the end of the discussion on this kind of division in 1965, is carried out. This, in order to present the processes of production and reproduction of gender order inside the secondary education system, highlighting the aspects that educational historiography have evidenced maintaining educational projects considered as antidemocratic and sexist.
