What capitalism? Notes on the Marxist dependency theory

Abstract

The present article presents the Marxist theory of dependency according to Ruy Mauro Marini, Marcelo Carnanholo and Jaime Osorio, and reflects on the authors’ concepts of dependency and superexploitation. These commentaries offer an analytical perspective to aid understanding of the social reality of countries located on the periphery of global capitalism, such as those of Latin America, with particular emphasis on the case of Brazil. The objective of the present article is to put forward arguments which may help to broaden the debate within the field of critical sociology.
