Care and domestic work: between recognition and redistribution

Authors

Abstract

The main objective of this article is to examine, within the context of the constituent process in Chile, the feminist movement’s demands for recognition of domestic and care work. Thus, we use the theoretical backgrounds from the discussion between the theory of recognition and redistribution, looking for a viable alternative to the classical theory of rights, which doesn’t resolve those demands for solidarity and social cooperation. The result is a proposal for a «reconciliation» between the two theories, that allows us to identify the performance of the constitutional recognition of that demand and the limits of the Law in solving such complex problems.
