Abstract

The author explains the influence of Spanish constitutionalism in the Chilean constitutional history, particularly, the impact of the Cadiz Constitution in the institutional structure of the early years of the Republic. The study of such antecedents not only allows the author to establish the similarities between the first national constitutions and the Constitution of Cadiz, but also reveal the inherent tensions of the political process and the discussions that arose during the stage of constitutional trials and in the final drafting of the 1833 Constitution.
