Abstract

The purpose of the article is to share results obtained in qualitative research which addresses the senses and constructions of the family, from the perspective of adolescents living in single-parent homes in the cities of Montevideo and Ciudad de la Costa. During 2017 and 2018, six life stories were carried out with female and male adolescents between 14 and 16 years old, totalling eleven interviews with a cartographic approach. The cartographic method of research (Deleuze & Guattari, 2006) is used in conjunction with the perspective of feminist epistemologies (Haraway, 1991; Harding, 1996), displacing the adult-centred gaze and prioritizing the place of adolescents in the approach to family issues. The results highlight that their family fictions are organized around ties of coexistence and affection, alluding to mobile, non-stabilized and dynamic configurations throughout their lives. The reference to the house appears as a physical materiality, but, above all, as a space for the daily practice of life in common. The conclusions reaffirm the importance of research methods involving adolescents promoting their participation and recognition as actors and agents of knowledge.
